%3Cb%3E%3C%2Fb%3E%3Cbr%2F%3E%3Cp%3EPhotos%20of%20the%20commanding%20officer%20of%20the%20respective%20Allied%20armies%20in%20Berlin%20hung%20behind%20the%20counter%20at%20Checkpoint%20Charlie.%20Unfortunately%2C%20the%20photographs%20of%20the%20British%20commanders%20were%20not%20turned%20over%20to%20the%20Allied%20Museum%20along%20with%20the%20structure.%3C%2Fp%3E%0A%0A%3Cp%3EWhen%20the%20booth%20was%20de-commissioned%2C%20Major%20General%20Sidney%20Shachnow%20%28left%29%2C%20was%20the%20top%20commander%20of%20U.S.%20forces%20in%20Berlin.%20Lieutenant%20Colonel%20Garry%20L.%20Pittman%20%28center%29%20was%20the%20provost%20marshal%20of%20the%20American%20M.P.%20garrison%20in%20Berlin.%20In%20June%2C%201990%2C%20Colonel%20John%20E.%20Counts%20%28right%29%20was%20the%20deputy%20commander%20and%20chief%20of%20staff%20of%20the%20United%20States%20Command%20in%20Berlin.%20No%20portrait%20was%20available%20for%20Major%20General%20Raymond%20E.%20Haddock%2C%20who%20was%20the%20City%20Commander%20of%20the%20American%20sector%20from%201988%20to%201990.%20His%20photo%20was%20probably%20removed%20before%20the%20buildings%20were%20handed%20over.%3C%2Fp%3E%0A%0A%3Cp%3EIn%20addition%20to%20the%20portraits%2C%20a%20number%20of%20office%20furnishings%20were%20handed%20over%2C%C2%A0%20including%20a%20typewriter%2C%20telephones%2C%20a%20coffee%20machine%20with%20its%20Styrofoam%20cups%2C%20a%20desk%20lamp%2C%20a%20radio%2C%20and%20a%20console%20most%20likely%20used%20to%20operate%20the%20exterior%20lights.%20Some%20objects%20had%20to%20be%20removed%20from%20the%20checkpoint%20structure%20in%20order%20to%20properly%20preserve%20them.%3C%2Fp%3E
%3Cb%3E%3C%2Fb%3E%3Cbr%2F%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20French%20were%20allocated%20the%20middle%20section%20of%20the%20counter.%20The%20hierarchy%20of%20the%20garrison%20is%20represented%20by%20four%20framed%20portraits.%20General%20Fran%C3%A7ois%20Cann%20%28left%29%20was%20the%20last%20French%20City%20Commander%20of%20Berlin%2C%20serving%20from%201987%20to%20October%2C%201990.%20General%20Guy%20Jolibois%20%28second%20from%20left%29%20was%20commander%20of%20the%20French%20military%20in%20Berlin.%20Colonel%20Darmau%20%28second%20from%20right%29%20was%20the%20highest-ranking%20gendarme%20in%20Berlin%2C%20and%20commanded%20the%20French%20contingent%20at%20Checkpoint%20Charlie.%20Lieutenant%20Colonel%20Choquet%20%28right%29%20was%20his%20deputy.%3C%2Fp%3E%0A%0A%3Cp%3EThe%20French%20also%20left%20behind%20a%20number%20of%20office%20supplies%20and%20fittings%2C%20including%20a%20typewriter%20and%20a%20telephone%2C%20which%20are%20still%20in%20the%20building.%20The%20artificial%20plants%20between%20the%20three%20different%20counters%20were%20also%20part%20of%20the%20original%20furnishings.%3C%2Fp%3E
